Proximity Smart Key Fob (Push-Button Start)
A proximity (passive entry) smart key fob that allows the truck to unlock when you approach and start with a push button when the fob is inside the vehicle. This is the most common setup on many 2024 Colorado configurations and is paired with an immobilizer transponder system.
Features
- Passive entry / keyless access (when equipped)
- Push-button start (when equipped)
- Immobilizer-enabled security (anti-theft pairing required)

Programming
🏢 Dealer RequiredProgramming typically requires a scan tool with GM-capable security access to add the fob to the vehicle’s immobilizer/body control system. If all keys are lost, the vehicle may require additional security steps and towing may be needed. Some vehicles allow limited “add-a-key” procedures only when at least one working key is present, but many late-model GM systems still require professional tooling.
⚠️ Common Issues
- Wrong frequency/FCC ID or incompatible part number (remote may not work or won’t program)
- Aftermarket fob quality issues (short range, intermittent buttons)
- Battery installed incorrectly or weak coin cell causing “No Remote Detected” warnings
- Fob loses programming after failed attempts or module lockouts requiring wait times
