Proximity Smart Key (Push-Button Start, PEPS)
A proximity smart key allows passive entry and push-button start when the fob is nearby. It communicates wirelessly with the Silverado’s keyless access system and also contains a transponder used by the immobilizer, so the truck can verify an authorized key before starting.
Features
- Passive entry (keyless unlock/lock when near the truck)
- Push-button start authorization (immobilizer-integrated)
- Remote start on many trims/packages (if equipped)

Programming
🏢 Dealer RequiredOptions typically include dealer or automotive-locksmith programming because the immobilizer and proximity functions must be paired to the vehicle; availability can depend on trim, module type, and security access requirements.
⚠️ Common Issues
- Intermittent passive entry due to a weak CR2032 battery
- Wrong fob style/FCC info leading to no proximity or no remote start function
