Intelligent Access Smart Key (Proximity) – 5-Button
Most 2024 Ford Explorer trims in the US use a proximity smart key (Ford Intelligent Access). The fob communicates with the vehicle for push-button start and allows passive entry when the fob is nearby, while the physical emergency key inside the fob can unlock the door if the fob battery is dead.

🏢 Dealer RequiredMost 2024 Explorer proximity keys require diagnostic equipment to add a key to the vehicle’s immobilizer system. Some situations may require at least one working key already present; all-keys-lost cases can involve additional security steps and time.
⚠️ Common Issues
- Wrong fob purchased because the FCC ID/part number doesn’t match (look-alike shells are common)
- Intermittent passive entry or “No Key Detected” warnings due to weak CR2450 battery or signal interference
