Proximity Smart Key (Push-Button Start)
A proximity Smart Key communicates with the Santa Fe using encrypted RF and an immobilizer transponder, allowing passive entry (unlock when approaching) and push-button start when the key is inside the vehicle. The remote buttons also control lock/unlock and other features, while the immobilizer portion is what authorizes the engine to start.
Features
- Proximity entry (keyless access)
- Push-button start authorization (immobilizer)
- Remote lock/unlock and panic (varies by trim)

Programming
🏢 Dealer RequiredOptions typically include adding a new Smart Key through dealer-level immobilizer/security authorization. Many owners find that even with a correct key shell, the internal board/FCC ID and immobilizer data must match, and programming access is the limiting factor.
⚠️ Common Issues
- Wrong FCC ID/frequency for the US market (key won’t program or functions won’t work)
- Weak CR2032 battery causing intermittent passive entry or “Key Not Detected” warnings
