Remote Head Key (RHK) – turn-key ignition
A combined metal ignition key and remote in one housing. The metal blade starts the car, while the remote buttons control door locks and (if equipped) trunk and panic. This setup is typical on Forte trims without push-button start.
Features
- Lock/unlock remote functions
- Metal key blade for ignition and door
- May include trunk release depending on trim
Buttons
Battery
CR2032
3-5 years typical lifespan
Programming
🏢 Dealer RequiredConsumers generally find that the remote portion and the immobilizer/transponder (if equipped) must be matched to the vehicle. Many aftermarket shells are cosmetic only and do not solve programming needs. If all keys are lost, immobilizer programming typically requires diagnostic tools and proof of ownership; dealers and many automotive locksmiths are common options.
⚠️ Common Issues
- Buttons stop working due to weak CR2032 battery or worn keypad membrane
- Remote works but engine will not start if the transponder/immobilizer chip is missing or not programmed
- Aftermarket key looks identical but is the wrong frequency or chip type
